National Park




It covers parts of Baba Mountain, which is located between the Prespa and Pelagonija valleys. It was the first national park on the territory of Macedonia, declared in 1948 and its total area is 17,150 hectares.
It gets its name from its peak Pelister (2,601 m.).


It is characterized by a large number of peaks and elevations higher than 2,000 meters, which are separated by deep valleys. From the land forms of Pelister, the most impressive are the so-called rocky rivers. These are slopes of the relief filled with blocks of rocks of different composition.


There are also two glacial lakes on Mount Baba called the Pelister Eyes. They are called Big and Small Lake. The Big Lake is located at an altitude of 2,218 m, is 233 m long and 162 m wide. The Small lake is located at an altitude of 2,180 m, is 79 m long and 162 m wide. The big one is 14.5 m deep and the small one is 2.6 m.


Right next to the Big Lake there is a mountain lodge with a capacity of 50-100 beds and beautiful terrains for hiking, mountaineering, mountain biking and sports. The lakes can be reached from two sides along two well-marked hiking trails. One path leads from the village of Nizepole from the locality of Lak Potok (barracks) or the ski lift through the area of ​​Debel Reed, and the other, which can be traveled by jeeps and off-road vehicles, starts from the hotel "Molika" and through the locality Jorgov Kamen, passing behind The Small Lake ends at the mountain lodge next to the Big Lake itself. A small marked hiking trail leads to the Little Lake, which leads from the mountain lodge on the Big Lake (1 to 1.5 hours) to the highest peak of the whole mountain - Pelister (antennas) 2601 meters high. A small endemic species of fish also lives in the Great Lake. In summer, many visitors and mountaineers often bathe in the cold waters of both lakes. The only point from which you can see the two lakes is as soon as you climb the elevation or ridge above the mountain lodge on the Big Lake on the path that leads to the top Pelister and the Small Lake.


The flora of Pelister is very diverse, hence its specific botanical significance. 88 tree species grow here, which represents 29% of the total dendroflora of Macedonia. In the vegetation of NP Pelister there are 21 plant communities, of which 8 are forest and 13 grass communities. Of the forest tree species, the most valuable is the molika - an autochthonous species of pentagonal pine with tertiary age that grows only in a few mountains on the Balkan Peninsula. The altitude amplitude of the Pelister molika is from 600 to over 2,200 meters.


From a tourist aspect - Pelister National Park and Baba Mountain, offer all the possibilities as well as all other mountain landscapes: mountaineering, cycling, skiing ...
Within NP Pelister there are 2 ski centers: Kopanki and Nijepole.
The ski center Kopanki has one two-seater and one ski lift.
The ski center Nizepole has 2 ski lifts.


At the foot of the mountain there are several hotels, a weekend settlement Nizepole, as well as the villages Magarevo, Trnovo and Dihovo.

There are also two glacial lakes on Mount Baba called the Pelister Eyes. They are called Big and Small Lake. The Big Lake is located at an altitude of 2,218 m, is 233 m long and 162 m wide. The small lake is located at an altitude of 2,180 m, is 79 m long and 162 m wide. The big one is 14.5 m deep and the small one is 2.6 m.


Right next to the Big Lake there is a mountain lodge with a capacity of 50-100 beds and beautiful terrains for hiking, mountaineering, mountain biking and sports. The lakes can be reached from two sides along two well-marked hiking trails. One path leads from the village of Nizepole from the locality of Lak Potok (barracks) or the ski lift through the area of ​​Debel Reed, and the other, which can be traveled by jeeps and off-road vehicles, starts from the hotel "Molika" and through the locality Jorgov Kamen, passing behind The Small Lake ends at the mountain lodge next to the Big Lake itself. A small marked hiking trail leads to the Little Lake, which leads from the mountain lodge on the Big Lake (1 to 1.5 hours) to the highest peak of the whole mountain - Pelister (antennas) 2601 meters high. A small endemic species of fish also lives in the Great Lake. In summer, many visitors and mountaineers often bathe in the cold waters of both lakes. The only point from which you can see the two lakes is as soon as you climb the elevation or ridge above the mountain lodge on the Big Lake on the path that leads to the top Pelister and the Small Lake.


The flora of Pelister is very diverse, hence its specific botanical significance. 88 tree species grow here, which represents 29% of the total dendroflora of Macedonia. In the vegetation of NP Pelister there are 21 plant communities, of which 8 are forest and 13 grass communities. Of the forest tree species, the most valuable is the molika - an autochthonous species of pentagonal pine with tertiary age that grows only in a few mountains on the Balkan Peninsula. The altitude amplitude of the Pelister molika is from 600 to over 2,200 meters.


From a tourist aspect - Pelister National Park and Baba Mountain, offer all the possibilities as well as all other mountain landscapes: mountaineering, cycling, skiing ...
Within NP Pelister there are 2 ski centers: Kopanki and Nijepole.
The ski center Kopanki has one two-seater and one ski lift.
The ski center Nizepole has 2 ski lifts.


At the foot of the mountain there are several hotels, a weekend settlement Nizepole, as well as the villages Magarevo, Trnovo and Dihovo.

The Ministry of Education and Science has already given an opinion that the website CAN be used in primary and secondary schools.


On this site you can "walk" virtually through many locations, which are divided into topics:
- settlements - cities, villages, ski resorts, picnic places
- nature - rivers, gorges, lakes, mountains
- history - museums, archeological sites, memorial centers, monuments and others (such as Kokino, Kuklici, Cocev Kamen ...)
- religious buildings - churches, monasteries, mosques
- art galleries and exhibitions
- tests - on how much you know about the monuments in Skopje and another one in the field of geography - cities, villages, lakes and gorges.
All locations are processed with 360° panoramas - from the air and from the ground, which are interconnected, with much additional text information, photos, videos and 360 ° videos ... in 2 languages: Macedonian and English (for now).
It currently has more than 2,000 panoramas.
The site is also ready for "virtual tours with a live guide".
